International Practice
Our approach to criminal law is international, European, and global.
Extradition, Legal Assistance, and Repatriation of German Nationals Convicted Abroad
Protection against extradition based on a European Arrest Warrant or after an arrest triggered by an international arrest warrant (red notice) has been part of our everyday work for many years. Here, too, we do not wait until after an arrest, but already provide proactive advice, e.g. regarding the cancellation of INTERPOL arrest warrants.
We can offer transnational and comprehensive advice thanks to our international network that includes extradition specialists in other countries.
Conversely, we support German nationals convicted abroad in their repatriation efforts.
We have extensive experience in handling European Investigation Orders and other forms of legal assistance involving countries outside the EU.
European Public Prosecutor’s Office / Bundeskriminalamt
We also assume the role of defence counsel in proceedings of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). Our deep knowledge of the functioning and structure of the EPPO, which only recently started operations, enables us to provide our clients with comprehensive advice on the challenges faced in its criminal proceedings and outline the associated defence opportunities.
Defence against measures of the German Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt, BKA) is already an integral part of our work.
International Criminal Law and Human Rights Protection Under Criminal Law
Crimes sanctioned by international law – genocide, crimes against humanity, or war crimes – have long been tried not only before the International Criminal Court in the Hague. National prosecution of such crimes is also continuously gaining in significance. Defence and representation of secondary plaintiffs in such proceedings are only one side of the international-law expertise we offer. With Dr h.c. Wolfgang Schomburg – a former judge at the German Federal Court of Justice and at the United Nations’ International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and for Ruanda – we are in a position to offer comprehensive professional experience and excellent counselling at all three office locations.
Similarly, we are all strongly committed to focusing on the respect of fundamental and human rights at the national level, throughout the European Union, and at the level of the Council of Europe and the United Nations – to the extent necessary also before the courts and bodies instituted for this purpose.
